I’ve been preaching this gospel since the 1970s. I have always been concerned about the many people who are born again but never become a true disciple. And we all know that just because one is born again doesn’t mean they’re fixed yet, nor does it mean they have the ability to totally turn their life over to Christ.
I am proud of this book, The Mandate. It is going to help many believers walk more closely with Christ, be overcomers, and live a life free from their shackles and bondages. It is also going to equip leaders in our great Kingdom to help make disciples who are even more committed and live with biblical precision. Every pastor’s dream is to build a great army who will never betray God and stay together until the trumpet sounds.
This book will provide the means by which to do this. There’s information on these pages from Dr. Rick Barker, who is not only a longtime disciple, but also a man who has pastored God’s people.
I love how Rick used the stories of real Bible characters to drive home this point: “This is not a new problem.” The eight points made in Chapter 2, “The Heart of the Father,” are worth purchasing the entire book.
This is one of those books you’ll want to read through more than one time, looking up the verses and letting them settle within your heart. Then, either buy your friends a copy, or pass yours on, so it continues to bring perpetual impartation to the body of Christ.
This book is easy to understand, written by a man who has walked down this path—both on the side of the pastorate and as a disciple. It’s a great study guide and loaded with verses. Job well done, Rick. May the Lord breathe on the sale and distribution of this, and may it be used to build one of the greatest armies Jesus Christ has ever had—those of us who are going to help climax the ages!

Further, when discipleship is lacking, the ministry of helps will be hurting to meet the needs of the church. Most pastors burn the candle at both ends, and that is not always a good thing.
